ShonenJump. 03

manga
2021.10.27

I wrote about DRAGON BALL, ONE PIECE, DEMON SLAYER, NARUTO, Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure and Captain Tsubasa on ShonenJump01.
I wrote an article about YuYu Hakusho, Slam Dunk, Fist of the North Star, Knights of the Zodiac: Saint Seiya, Rokudenashi BLUES, Kinnikuman, etc. on ShonenJump02.

This time, following ShonenJump02, I would like to pick up works from the golden age of Shonen Jump, up to 1996.
There may be things that have not been animated or transmitted abroad. Here is a little more information about the Japanese meaning of the title.

Rurouni Kenshin: The title is in Japanese.
The word “Rurouni” was coined from the word “Rurounin” which means wandering people. Kensin is the name of the main character, and is made up of the Chinese character for sword’s heart.
The story takes place at the beginning of Japan’s Meiji era, about 150 years ago, when samurai still wore swords. Some historical figures are included.

DRAGON QUEST -THE ADVENTURE OF DAI-: Based on the video game of the same title.
In Japan, it is mainly called “Dai no Daiboken”, which means THE ADVENTURE OF DAI.
First of all, Japanese boys had a firm recognition of the video game Dragon Quest. It was very popular in Japan because of the story in its world view. It is so popular that the anime has recently been remade.
Dragon Quest was designed by Akira Toriyama, so if you like Dragon Ball, you may want to start with Dragon Quest.

NINKU: It is also Ninku in Japan.
The “Nin” in Ninku stands for Ninjutsu, and the “Ku” stands for Karate. It is a battle manga that uses a combination of ninjutsu and karate techniques.
Until the arrival of NARUTO, ninja was the NINKU.

Jungle no Oja Tachan: It is also Jungle no Oja Tachan in Japan.
It means Tachan, the king of the jungle. Tachan lives in the jungle with his wife.
It is very good at gags, eroticism, and battles. I personally think that the fact that Oda-sensei of One Piece was there as an assistant may have influenced the amount of work that has gone into One Piece recently.

Magical Taruruto kun; It is also Magical Taruruto kun in Japan.
Taruruto kun is a wizard who appears in front of the main character.
Many of the characters are cute, but there are also some naughty elements. The heroine’s name is Iyona Kawai. In Japanese, it means, “Isn’t she cute?”.

Sakigake!! Otokojuku: It is also Sakigake!! Otokojuku in Japan.
“Sakigake” means “pioneer” “forerunner” or “Don’t be afraid. “Otokojuku” means a school for men. Otokojuku is a school for men who are men among men. Oil baths (Aburaburo) and blood feuds (Kettoen) appear as a matter of fact. It’s a hot battle of men.
It has been animated in the past, but it is a masterpiece that should be remade now.

Hana no Keiji -Kumo no Kanatani-: It is also Hana no Keiji -Kumo no Kanatani- in Japan.
“Hana no Keiji” means “Keiji’s flower,” likely implying that he is a person of prominence or a star figure. “Kumo no Kanatani” means beyond the clouds.
Maeda Keiji, a real-life historical figure who was known as Kabukimono. Kabukimono is often translated into English as “strange things” or “crazy ones”. They were either ronin, wandering samurai, or men who had once worked for samurai families who formed gangs during times of peace.
It’s a luxury to have it drawn by Fist of the North Star’s Hara-sensei.

I”s: It is also I”s in Japan.
The title is made up of the initials of the hero and heroines.
It is a love story between Japanese high school students, and the city streets are realistically depicted. The occasional naughty accident makes the reader’s heart pound. I think this manga established the sexy element slot in Jump.
It’s very elegant erotica, and Katsura-sensei draws girls’ butts the best in the world.

CAT’S EYE: This is the same title, but in Japan it is written in katakana.
The team name of the three beautiful sisters’ thief group is Cat’s Eye. This is a work by Hojo-sensei of City Hunter. It’s a shonen manga for adults.

High school! Kimengumi; It is also High school! Kimengumi in Japan.
Kimengumi is a group of perverts with funny faces. It is a gag comedy with Hentai as the main characters.
It seems that in France, there was a TV broadcast of the anime along with Captain Tsubasa.

Midori no Makibao; It is also Midori no Makibao in Japan.
Midori” means “green,” probably taken from grass. Makibao’s mother may have been Midoriko. Green Makibao.
It was also made into an anime and was one of Shonen Jump’s most popular manga.

Tottemo!Luckyman; It is also Tottemo!Luckyman in Japan.
“Tottemo!” means very. A very Luckyman. Lucky Man’s design is softly Ultraman-based.
There is a rumor that this author, Gamou-sensei, is Tsugumi Ohba of Death Note fame.

Kimagure Orange Road; It is also Kimagure Orange Road in Japan.
“Kimagure” means whimsy. A masterpiece that has been animated and broadcasted around the world. The pictures make us feel nostalgic. This is such a work.

Jinnairyu Jujutsu Butoden Majima kun Suttobasu!!; It is also Jinnairyu Jujutsu Butoden Majima kun Suttobasu!! in Japan.
“Jinnairyu” is a school(Ryuha). “Jujutsu” is not Jujutsu of “Jujutsu Kaisen,” but Jujutsu(Jiu-jitsu).”Butoden” is a martial art. “Majima kun” is the name of the main character. Suttobasu means to fly vigorously.

Chinyuki
Manyuki
; It’s the same title as it was.
They’re both by the same cartoonist.
These works are undoubtedly the manga that supported the golden age of Shonen Jump, but they are very vulgar gag manga. It is so popular that it has been made into a live-action movie. However, this is content that should not be released from Japan to overseas. Chin and Man in the title refer to male and female genitalia, respectively. It is the only manga I hope the world will never read. He is a maestro in Japan.

That’s it for works from the golden age of Shonen Jump. Next, I would like to write about the recent Shonen Jump.

I also have a lot of Shonen Jump goods on ebay, so please have a look.
